The Practicingnormal Reading Challenge for busy moms

I am a reader.

I am also a mom.

Being both can sometimes be quite difficult.

I keep track of all my books that I read on Goodreads and I participate in their yearly reading challenge. One of the things I had to do today was deciding how many books I would read this year and enter the challenge.  This consists of filling in the form and every time you finish a book you update it on the website.   No one ever checks up to see if you read the books that you say you will, but there is a little counter that reminds you for example:  You have fallen behind by 4 books.   I start to feel guilty as soon as that counter starts saying to keep up with this list you better go and read 2 books.  As if I need another thing to feel guilty about.  I’m a mom, I feel guilty all the time anyway.

I’m thinking maybe this year I need my own reading challenge.  One that takes into account that I only have so much time to spread around.  Between a husband, 5 kids, a family,  a fencing club, a household, a cat and a dog and trying to stay sane by blogging I do not have time to feel guilty about the amount of books I read.

So I present to you the Practicingnormal reading challenge.  Let me know if you’re finished.  I’m ticking most of mine today and starting 2015 with a list I’ve completed and can be proud of.

Oh my, you certainly are busy. I get a bit tired just reading about all those activities.

I love the book club idea, reading or not. I’d also recommend the Kindle app, so you’re not lugging around a book. I’ll bet you are already carrying tons of things for 5 children.

    Happy New Year!

I found that reading electronically helps, then you always have a book with you. And I’m definitely joining a book club this year.

Tihs is a great idea. For me though, the only books I read lately are either books read to my son, always a good idea but not for me, or textbooks as I am also a full-time student. I need to work on expanding my son’s book library though. I’m not much of a bookworm myself really.

I’m a huge bookworm with very little time and I love reading to my kids but some of them I can now recite by heart.

You never know. With this challenge you might be able to keep up.
Our whole family fence, parents and all the kids included. We’ve took over the club from my Father-in-Law and have been doing it for almost 20 years.

Fabulous post! I have a book in the bathroom, one next to the bed, and a Kindle in my handbag. All books take me ages to read unless I am doing it for a review and have a deadline! In fact, I took a job recently almost entirely because it was a short bus ride out of town, and I looked forward to the reading time on the journeys to the office!

I have an Ipad that I carry with my everywhere with the hope that I will have time to read. Unfortunately it does not always work out that way. Sigh.

I love reading, but like you I do not have the time! If it’s for a review then I will make the time. I think I could compete your challenge no problem lol!

Ha ha! Love it! As a house husband I can totally relate, except that I’m not bothering to challenge myself with reading more than a comic book (I can pretend its for my son!).

Haven’t you heard that comic books are now called graphic novels and that they count towards your reading Challenge on Goodreads? So you are in the clear. Reading is reading. Let me know how far you get with the challenge.
